ABOUT

Our Story

Wise Goldens began in our home in San Luis Obispo County with a simple goal: to raise Golden Retrievers the way we believe they should be. Intentionally, ethically, and as part of everyday family life.

I have a background in biology, along with hands-on experience as an emergency veterinary technician and education work with the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Animals have always been a central part of my life, from rescue work to caring for a wide range of species, including large exotics like rescued lions and tigers. Golden Retrievers became something more.

We welcomed Sadie home in 2021 after her brother Sunny stole our hearts in 2020. With Sadie, we began our plan for a small, intentional breeding program. Today, that program continues with Goldie, who was born and raised here as part of our family. Sunny enjoys his role as the neutered uncle.

Our Approach

Wise Goldens is a small, intentional breeding program focused on raising Golden Retrievers with exceptional temperament, sound structure, and long-term health.

Our puppies are born and raised in our home, not in kennels. They are handled daily, introduced to Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), started on potty training, and exposed to real household environments from the start. We are hands-on through every stage because those early weeks are critical in shaping confident, adaptable companions.

Each litter is thoughtfully planned and never repeated on a schedule. Pairings are selected for temperament, health clearances, structure, and long-term compatibility. We review multi-generation pedigrees and avoid close lineage overlap to support healthier outcomes across generations.

Our goal is to raise dogs that integrate seamlessly into family life. Stable, people-focused, and responsive.

Our Dogs

We specialize in field-type Golden Retrievers, known for their athletic build, intelligence, and strong connection to people.

They thrive in active homes and enjoy being part of everyday life. While they are capable and engaged, they are not too much. With proper exercise and structure, they settle well and make calm, steady companions.

We do not breed for coat color or trends. Our focus is always on:

Temperament

Health

Structure

Long-term soundness

In addition to the dogs in our home, we thoughtfully place select dogs in local guardian homes through our guardianship program. These dogs remain part of the Wise Goldens program while living full-time as family companions. Meli Bea is part of this program and is raised in a home environment with the same standards of care, structure, and integration into daily life.

WHAT SETS US APART

  • Puppies are raised in our home, not in kennels

  • Puppies are born in our home and handled daily from the start

  • Early neurological stimulation (ENS) and early potty training

  • Litters are planned intentionally, not produced on a schedule

  • We carry waitlists for all planned litters; most puppies are reserved before birth

OUR COMMITMENT

We are committed to the dogs we raise for their entire lives.

We do not rehome our retired females. They remain part of our family. If a dog we have bred ever needs a new home, they come back to us.

We do not ship puppies. Placement should be intentional, personal, and the right fit for both the puppy and the family.
